I recently took a trip down to Geelong, Victoria to do some hours and get certified for my Infant & Preschool Aquatics.
Why all the way there? I figured that since it's an AUSTSWIM cert which stems from Australia anyway, where better to learn and get my hours done than the actual country itself?! Here are some of the photos from the trip. However, due to confidentiality reasons, there aren't any pictures of classes.
I learnt heaps from Geelong Aquatic Centre and had the good opportunity to see how they run their programs there. Everything from - how to create my own swim program; how to customise it according to the client's needs; how to substitute activities (in the event that the swimmer doesn't respond well to the initial one planned). What I've penned down here is just the tip of the iceberg. You'll have to speak to me in person to learn more! ;)
I was initially quite nervous as I didn't know how the young bubs would react to a totally new person crashing their swim lesson. I'm glad to say that I didn't cause anyone to frown, let alone cry. Yay me! I'm also proud to say that the little ones allowed me to carry them for certain activities that involve them swimming to their parent.
Since I had already made my trip there, I also decided to stay in the water for GAC's Swordfish Club - Swimming with a Disability Program. It was amazing to see how well some of these children could swim. A really humbling experience. However, for now, I will be focusing on swimming, water safety and infant and preschoolers. Don't fret though, Teacher of Swimming - Access and Inclusion will be the next on my list of certifications to take.
So there you have it! A very condensed version of my trip to Geelong.
